Shell & Hanwha Join The Shepherd CCS Project In Korea - Carbon HeraldShell Gas & Power and Hanwha have become the latest members to join the Korea-Malaysia Shepherd CCS Project.
A joint program between Korea and Malaysia, the aim of the carbon capture and storage (CCS) project is to address the CO2 emissions from industrial complexes in Korea.
The captured carbon dioxide is then to be transported to Malaysia for permanent storage, thus the project will cover the entire carbon value chain and will be the first of its kind in the region.

The Shepherd CCS Project was announced a year ago by SK Earthon, SK Energy, Samsung Heavy Industry, Samsung Engineering and Lotte Chemical, who signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Petronas, Malaysia’s state-run oil company.

Now, in addition to Shell and Hanwha, several other members also joined the CCS agreement, namely Korea National Oil Corporation and Air Liquide Korea.

The program participants have already pinpointed a location for the carbon capture hub in Korea and have also selected a storage location in Malaysia.
